Shape the Future of Scholarly Communications – Join FORCE11 Working Groups

groups-avatar-3a

We are delighted to share with you our cohort of 10 FORCE11 Working Groups for 2025. The Working Groups span a diverse set of areas in scholarly communications and research practices, from research data, books or peer review, to AI and metadata. The Working Groups are kicking off this month and will operate for 18 months. We invite you to learn more about the Working Groups on their individual pages: https://force11.org/active-groups/.  Many of the FORCE11 Working Groups are actively recruiting members. We invite you to support the community’s work in addressing critical challenges in scholarly communications by joining one of the following Working Groups.

All Working Groups welcome new members interested in contributing to these important initiatives. Each group’s homepage provides detailed information about their specific goals and planned activities.

Working Groups

Developing research assessment criteria for the use of AI in scientific and scholarly publications (RA4AI)
The RA4AI working group is developing comprehensive criteria for assessing the use and impact of AI in scholarly communication processes. These criteria are needed in order to maintain trust and credibility in research, as the wide use of AI will come with tremendous tradeoffs between efficiency and (possibly) expert judgement.

Cross-industry collaboration to harmonize data sharing workflows
This cross-industry group aims to foster collaboration by identifying key challenges for data repositories and journals in the context of data-sharing practices, and developing actionable outputs, such as guidelines for repositories and journals

Rebuilding Scholarly Communication and Research Community in Post-Conflict Contexts (ReSCORE)
The ReSCORE group focuses on establishing sustainable research infrastructure and enhancing scholarly communication in regions recovering from conflict. While starting with Somalia as a pilot case, the group will develop scalable resources and frameworks applicable to other post-conflict and under-resourced settings.

Improving metadata practices for enhancing automating scholarly communication findability
The working group seeks to improve metadata practices to enhance the automation of findability in scholarly communications. Despite robust metadata infrastructures, critical details like persistent identifiers and funding information are often omitted, limiting discoverability. By addressing these gaps, the group aims to fully utilize open infrastructures and improve access to research outputs.

Canine Community Science Working Group
This working group aims to create a canine science platform to foster collaborations between scientists and enthusiasts, support open dialogue, inform policy, and encourage citizen science contributions.
