Start your first day of the conference<\/a> with our first keynote, by Dr. Leslie Chan, Director of the Knowledge Production Lab at the University of Toronto, Scarborough. His keynote message is \u201cBeyond diversity and inclusion: Challenging structural racism and systemic biases in academic knowledge production<\/strong>.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A community discussion will follow immediately after the keynote, with panelists Dr. Daniela Saderi; Joy Owango, Executive Director of the Training Centre in Communication; and Dr. Jo Havemann reporting on their work to advance equity in scholarly practice and communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The keynote and discussion are scheduled to take place during waking hours for much of Africa, Asia, and Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next up are Community Presentations, a series of lightning talks. This would make a great lunch and learn if you\u2019re in the neighborhood of UTC!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At this point in the day we welcome the Americas: Boa tarde! Bonjour! Buenos dias! Good day!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Software citation is a theme that runs throughout FORCE2021, with pre- and post-conference hackathons tackling that challenge. The Day 1 agenda also includes a deep dive on the topic, featuring Melissa Harrison, Team Leader for Literature Services at EMBL European Bioinformatics Institute, and Dr. Daniel S. Katz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The later part of the day features two panels: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Governance Models of Open Infrastructure: Building Sustainability and Capacity<\/strong> with Dr. Brian O\u2019Connor; Vanessa Proudman, Director, SPARC Europe; Dr. Arianna Becerril-Garc\u00eda, and Joy Owango, Executive Director of the Training Centre in Communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Successes from Engaging Students and Early Career Professionals in Scholarly Communications and its Impact in the Future<\/strong> with Dr. Shohra Qaderi, Dr. Don Elisero Lucero-Prisno, pharmacist Yusuff Adebayo Adebisi, and medical student Adriana Viola Miranda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
