Megan Boler<\/a><\/h2>\n

Professor at the Department of Social Justice Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto\u200b<\/strong><\/p>\n

Megan Boler is Full Professor at the Department of Social Justice Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto and earned her Ph.D. from the History of Consciousness Program at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Her books include Feeling Power: Emotions and Education (Routledge 1999); Democratic Dialogue in Education (Peter Lang 2004); Digital Media and Democracy: Tactics in Hard Times (MIT Press 2008); and DIY Citizenship: Critical Making and Social Media (eds. Ratto and Boler, MIT Press 2014). Funded by Canadian Social Science and Humanities Research Council for the last ten years, her previous research projects include: “Rethinking Media Democracy and Citizenship,” which examined the motivations of producers of web-based challenges to traditional news (2005-08); “Social Media in the Hands of Young Citizens” (2010-13) was a mixed-methods study of women participants’ experience in the Occupy Wall Street movement, including interviews with women in seven North American cities. Her web-based productions include the official study guide to the documentary The Corporation (dirs. Achbar and Abbott 2003), and the multimedia website Critical Media Literacy in Times of War. She teaches graduate courses in media and communications, cultural studies, and in critical theory and feminist philosophies.<\/p>\n

Vincent Larivi\u00e8re<\/a><\/h2>\n

Canada Research Chair on the Transformations of Scholarly Communication at Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al<\/strong><\/p>\n

Vincent Larivi\u00e8re holds the Canada Research Chair on the Transformations of Scholarly Communication at Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al, where he is associate professor of information science. He is also scientific director of the \u00c9rudit journal platform, associate scientific director of the Observatoire des Sciences et des Technologies (OST) and regular member of the Centre Interuniversitaire de Recherche sur la Science et la Technologie (CIRST). Over the last 15 years, Vincent’s research has investigated the characteristics of global research systems, determinants of researchers’ scientific activities, as well as the transformations, in the digital world, of the modes of production and dissemination of scientific and technological knowledge. He holds a bachelor’s degree in science, technology and society (UQAM), a master’s degree in history of science (UQAM) and a Ph.D. in information science (McGill), and has been a postdoctoral fellow at Indiana University Bloomington.<\/p>\n

Kristen Ratan<\/a><\/h2>\n

Co-founder of Collaborative Knowledge (Coko) Foundation<\/strong><\/p>\n

Krsten Ratan is co-founder of Collaborative Knowledge (Coko) Foundation. Its mission is to evolve how scholarship is created, produced and reported. Coko is building open source solutions in scholarly knowledge production that foster collaboration, integrity and speed.  Kristen has a 20-year history in the information industry, most recently as the Publisher at teh Public Library of Science (PLOS).  Before PLOS, Kristen spent five years at HighWire, leading the Product, Marketing and BD teams.  Prior to that, she held positions at Atypon, a flash-in-the-pan bioinformatics company called DoubleTwist and BIOSIS.  Kristen has held Board positions with CrossRef and the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) and currently serves on the Publications Committee for NISO and Advisory Board for DataOne.<\/p>\n
