About FORCE11<\/span><\/h2>\n

FORCE11 is a community of scholars, librarians, archivists, publishers and research funders that has arisen organically to help facilitate the change toward improved knowledge creation and sharing. Individually and collectively, we aim to bring about a change in modern scholarly communications through the effective use of information technology. <\/span><\/p>\n

FORCE11 has grown from a small group of like-minded individuals into an open movement with clearly identified stakeholders associated with emerging technologies, policies, funding mechanisms and business models. The written word has great expressive power to communicate complex ideas.  But our founding assumption is that semantically enhanced, media-rich digital publishing will be more powerful than traditional print media or electronic copies of printed works. However, to date, online versions of ‘scholarly outputs’ have tended to replicate print forms, rather than exploit the additional functionalities afforded by the digital terrain. We believe that digital publishing of enhanced papers will enable more effective scholarly communication, which will also broaden to include, for example, the publication of software tools, and research communication by means of social media channels. We see FORCE11 as a starting point for a community that we hope will grow and be augmented by individual and collective efforts by the participants and others. We invite you to join and contribute to this enterprise.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a>FORCE11 2018 EVENTS<\/span><\/h2>\n

2018 FORCE11 SCHOLARLY COMMUNICATIONS INSTITUTE (FSCI)<\/span><\/h4>\n

The FORCE11 Scholarly Communication Institute (FSCI) <\/span>is a summer school that helps people learn how to navigate this new world. Its instructors include leading practitioners from the world of research, libraries, publishing, and research administration. Its courses range from basic orientations through classes in the most advanced topics. Its goal is to provide a friendly, community-based way of learning about and keeping up to date on the latest trends, technologies, and opportunities that are transforming the way science and scholarship is done. FORCE11 Scholarly Communications Institute (FSCI) University of California, San Diego La Jolla, CA, USA July 30 – August 3, 2018.<\/p>\n

FORCE2018 CONFERENCE<\/h4>\n

The FORCE2018 Conference<\/span> brings together a diverse group of people interested in changing the way in which scholarly and scientific information is communicated and shared. The goal is to maximize efficiency and accessibility. The conference is non-traditional, with all stakeholders coming to the table for open discussion on an even playing field in support of innovation and coordination across perspectives. The FORCE11 conference draws 250-350 attendees from around the world and this year conference will take place at McGill University in Montreal, CA, October 11-12, 2018.<\/p>\n
