The wider impact of reforms to academic publishing will also be considered, including how the public's engagement with research can be improved, through, for example, the provision of walk-in access to journals in public libraries UK-wide. Delegates will also analyse whether or not domestic reforms could spur a move towards worldwide open access and the resulting effect this could have on the UK's competitive position in research and development.

Speakers:
Ron Egginton, Head, BBSRC and ESRC Team, Research Funding Unit, Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and Professor Martin Hall, Vice-Chancellor, University of Salford and Chair, UK Open Access Implementation Group
and
Professor Sheila Anderson, King’s College London; Stefan Delplace, EURASHE (European Association of Institutions in Higher Education); Frederick Friend, University College London; Mark Hahnel, Digital Science; Dr Michael Jubb, Research Information Network and Finch Committee; Ziyad Marar, SAGE Publications; Maja Maricevic, British Library; Professor Tom McLeish, Durham University; Dr Tony Peatfield, Medical Research Council; David Prosser, Research Libraries UK (RLUK); Dr James Milne, Royal Society of Chemistry; Dr Malcolm Skingle, GSK; Dr Jonathan Tedds, University of Leicester; Mark Thorley, Natural Environment Research Council; Professor Nigel Vincent, University of Manchester and The British Academy

Chaired by:
Tristram Hunt MP, Chair, All-Party Parliamentary Group on Publishing and David Amess MP, Member, All-Party Parliamentary Group on Publishing

Timing: Morning, Tuesday, 5th February 2013
Venue: Wellcome Trust Lecture Hall, Royal Society, 6-9 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1Y 5AG
This event is CPD certified

http://www.westminsterforumprojects.co.uk/forums/event.php?eid=515

Archive: https://archive.force11.net/node/4255

Date: 5th February 2013 Location: London, UK Government has largely accepted the recommendations in Dame Janet Finch's report Accessibility, sustainability, excellence: how to expand access to research publications, which included making publically-funded research available to read for free by 2014.
